Meet Philana!

Philana Goodrich

Philana

As a kid, I was obsessed with eyebrows. Or rather, other people's eyebrows because mine were blonde and invisible to the naked eye (this often sent me rifling for eyeliner in my mother’s purse *sigh* I had to burn those school photos. )Nevertheless, my eyebrow obsession taught me something paramount to becoming a great hairstylist. Simply, that our features can be completely transformed depending on how we choose to frame them. Hair is a wonderful medium. By playing with it’s shape and color, we can choose to showcase our eyes, our cheekbones, even our freckles..  we can change not only how the world perceives us but how we perceive ourselves. Pretty fun!

I am a Master Stylist with 14 years behind the chair. I hail from the Pacific Northwest and helped launch the first Organic Salon in Seattle over a decade ago. I subscribe to the belief that living a beautiful life also means leaving a small footprint on the environment. This is Pure’s mission and that’s why I’m totally honored to be part of the Pure team.

When I’m not styling hair in either Tennessee or Washington, I’m in the studio producing music.

Here are some product suggestions, tips and tricks on what we are really into right now.

Glamcloudshine2.jpg

Several of our stylists including Ray Taaffe and myself are in love with Glam Shine Cloud by O Way.

We recommend using a spray or two in the palm of your hair to disperse throughout the hair. If you are looking for NYE shine, spray LIGHTLY at full arms length above the head.

Here are some great ways to use it:

  • Use on your hair as a finishing polish to any style
  • Great for smoothing fly-aways for any looks done in-salon or on your own
  • Breaks up waves, just beautifully
  • It makes any hair color POP with shine

Style Pro tip: Ray suggests keeping your iron slightly hotter, leaving the hair on the iron for a shorter time span... be it 300 or 400 degrees... both are really damn hot. Shock your hair for less time rather than holding the hair on for 10 seconds in order to achieve the curl you want.

Head coordinator, Devon LOVES making any style last as long as possible after receiving a hair service, at Pure. She suggests using our gem of a product, Bari Natural's Dry Shampoo! Simply shake it in where you need it, leaving your style looking nice and fresh.

Party Hair Tips

Another one of our favs for a medium hold finishing spray would be Yarok Feed Your Hold. This is a great party hair product. It will sustain a natural looking style that will not flake or weight your hair down.

  • WET HAIR Use as a styling lotion before blow drying or a roller set
  • DRY HAIR Spray full arms length above your head to seal the hold
  • STYLE NOTE Spray on hair while curling iron is heating each section for a faster hold

Skin expert, Caitlin Hart suggests instead of potentially damaging your skin by too frequently using exfoliants like scrubs, retinol and vitamin C serums, peels and more, try the 40/60 rule. Try 40% exfoliating products and 60% rebuilding products. Instead of layering product on top of dead skin let Caitlin help you pick the perfect routine!

Skin Therapist, Emily Jones is really into iLike' Sour Cherry Toner and ANY exfoliant she can get her hands on right now. She is in love with fresh natural looking foundations, too.

Pure Stylist, Stacy Freeman is into beachy, loose waves, rooted, balayaged & babylighted blondes, whispy/textured layers, cornrows, braids and pastels.

Stacy's tip for her guests is that she thinks the most important part of her hair service is the consultation; mini interview, if you will. This is where she will determine your mood, style, and goals for your service on any given day. She loves when you ask her questions. She is very passionate and has so much information to share. Be prepared to learn. So, please feel free to take notes!

Meet Stacy!

IMG_1994.JPG

I began my career eight years ago, and the desire to learn has never surrendered. I have since enjoyed furthering my education in cut, color, braiding, all forms of extensions, blonding and balayage, as well as, leadership training.

Before cosmetology, the creative arts were my first love. Art doesn't judge; it knows no boundaries, and can just be. I now use my love for art and color to create a wearable canvas.

In my seven years as a stylist, I've been fortunate to have learned about the chemical footprint we leave on Earth and what we can do to change it. Being vegan, I believe every aspect of what goes into ones body needs to support this lifestyle. When I came across Pure, I knew it would be the right fit for me.

I'm grateful for being able to combine my passion and career aspirations with my unending impulse for wanderlust. My styling has taken me around the corners of Tennessee, Las Vegas, and Jamaica. I love having the chance to share my gift at home or anywhere on the road. Creating lasting relationships and cherishing life's indelible moments are what keep the globe spinning.

Meet Ray Taaffe!

We are happy to have Ray as part of the team at Pure as one of our new stylists!

My education within the hair industry initially started at Toni&Guy based out of Southern California, however my ethos and passion sparked much earlier. I have always had an interest and belief that beauty and personal style was much more than an outer facade of what others see. Confidence within beauty and personal style should not be dismissed as superficial vanity, but rather a form of self reflection, expression and a creative outlet.  I would not feel at home or fulfilled in the industry merely for the vain aspect, nor just simply to go through the motions of creating beauty to fit a trend or scene.  Alternatively, for giving people confidence, and helping them develop their personal style and the means to express it.

I believe we should all feel beautiful, confident, and feel capable of expressing ourselves through our personal style and energy; whether that changes day by day or once a year.  We are dynamic and multidimensional creatures, who should embrace that full heartedly and share it with the world.

I attended the Toni&Guy academy in Newport Beach, CA and worked within the company for four years.  I then went on to explore a whole new side of the industry working at a boutique, Bumble&bumble Exclusive Salon, where I rented a space. In addition to working with my beloved clients, I helped further the education of new stylists and assistants with a variety ranging from basic to advanced creative cutting skills, color techniques, consultation skills, guidance in building a clientele, mentoring, product knowledge, link extensions, and more.

In being especially passionate about self expression, I have also found great joy in working with artists and other creatives out of the salon, and on set for television and film. Working in partnership with musicians, models, bloggers, clothing lines, and photographers on photoshoots, carefully crafting and developing an image and brand. Some examples are Americas Next Top Model (The CW), and Love&Stitches Boutique based out of Long Beach CA.

Being an artist, model and musician myself, I feel very connected and eager to help people find their direction, along with what it is they want to say to the world.

I'm intrigued and enthusiastic about constant self exploration and improvement. I believe all good things start from within to live a healthy (body, mind and spirit) balanced life.  Everything is connected, and it is important to be conscious of what we feed our bodies and our minds.

But of course, everything in moderation, even moderation itself. ;)

I'm persistently eager to grow, learn, create new experiences and collaborate with, and surround myself around positive, creative people.
